As of May 28th, 2010, I’m officially a Robot.

After 17 grueling months as a squishy meatbag at The Guildhall (Software Development student), my glamorous new life as a Robot feels like the end of a monsoon. The sun shines brightly (no, really, it’s 101 here), and a sense of renewed hope and wonder penetrates the world.

I could tout that my upgrade to a Robot affords a more normal schedule, and the ability to focus on the task at hand, but these benefits would result from any return to the workforce.

The truly amazing part of being a Robot (embrace the pun!) stems from the opportunity to work on Entertainment. As our website states, we’re making GAME. Not only do I get to work on GAME and participate in creating the awesomeness of GAME, but also I get to work with other intelligent, creative, and eccentric Robots who also love working on GAME. These Robots have created Entertainment for years, and truly know how to make GAME fun.

Also, the jet pack!

My adventure started with setting up a two computer, three monitor system in the back left corner of the green pod next to the windows and the Lead Robo-Coder. After about a day and a half of paperwork and getting everything set up, downloaded, updated, and configured, I finally began working.

The Lead Robo-Coder assigned me a handful of directives, so I picked one with higher priority and dove head-first into the code base. As with any new project, it took some time to get oriented. After a couple days I had a good idea of what I was doing and could quickly iterate to figure out what provided the best solution. Friday saw my first feature check-in, and therefore first true contribution to GAME.

Life as a Robot provides all the amenities many squishies could only hope for, and I often sight Robots helping other Robots. But after all is said and done, us Robots have what drives people to the game industry: we have fun working.

Fresh off the assembly line,
Robo-Coder Shovaen "Shoop" Patel

PPPS: I feel FANTASTIC and I’m still alive.
PPPPS: Feel free to give me a Cheesiness score.

Welcome!

Glad to meet the new robot. (:

Why do you say GAME? Is this a hint to what the name is going to be?

Seems to me that the graphic under the projects link now shows robots working on "GAME" instead of "GAMES." If I recall correctly, that's a change.

Hello,

I have a presentiment, that this "GAME" string is just a filler which was put there, to make it easier to replace it with the correct name after the official announcement. Could I be right? Does this mean, that the announcement is going to take place in the near future?

Congratulations on becoming an robot. =) Best of luck with the development and cheesiness score... Hm... Since you quoted one of the things I love, I would have to say 9/10 and legen....daryness 11/10.

Final thought: While your dying I'll be still alive

@Sean I believe he is messing with us, since he knows how much we want to know about the upcoming GAME.

I guess he's using "GAME" to sensor their upcoming project..what might it be?

Is it just me or is the GAME image under the "projects" tab becoming more complete? I feel like there used to be more pieces lying on the ground...is this an indicator of you robot's progress?

Anyway..the "A" is all that is lit up right now. I can't wait until GAME is entirely lit!

PS: Shoop I think you had just enough cheese to make it work.

Some very sad news - doesnt look like we will hear anything at E3. I listened to Microsoft's "big announcement" and was quite disapointed. They didnt tell us anything new......

@SherlockHolmes great obersvation if true. You earned a 10/10 on your detective test. I cant recall if the "A" was lit up previously. Does anyone else seem to recall?? Nevertheless, I hope the word "GAME" lites up pretty quickly or you might start seeing some of Robot's faithful get "lit up!" Only 25% of the way done in 16 months?? Hmmmmm. I hope Robot comes out with press release and a game before the world blows up in 2012. (Not that I believe in that kinda stuff anyway:-)

Anyway good luck Shoop and Robot in the future.

LISTEN UP !!

I Cache Searched this website and saw a shot of it in 2009.
And NO, the "GAME" doesn't appear to have changed =P

I might be wrong if the search didn't function right though... hm

I would have to agree with the "GAME" grahpic not changing. Think about it, if it was valid that would mean Robot is only 25% done with the game after working on it for 16 months! I know Robot has been slacking a little on getting us some info, but I dont think they have been doing that badly on developing their projects where they are onlu 25% done.

I'm looking foward to the new web site, as I hope that gives us some more info. Microsoft pulled a fast one today with a "Project Kingdoms" press release at E3. Robot is not involved and it doesnt look like a new AOE game even tough some say it might be. It look more like Natal / Gladiator game than a new AOE 1 remake RTS.

Anyway 2 more days of E3 to see if Microsoft comes through with something regarding Robot, even though it looks pretty unlikley at this point :-( Robot get us some info, or at least a idea when we will hear something. In the meanwhile you are killing us!!!

I want to throw some comments out there now that E3 officially is over. First off, the rumor about a AOE 4 announcement at E3 from Microsoft was completely bogus, and I apologize for getting anyone’s hopes up if I did based on my earlier posts. However, Robot I do feel that you owe your community some information on when we can expect an announcement on your projects. I’m not saying to give the name of your project away if you are not ready to do so, but to at least give us some idea how much longer we should wait before something will be out there. 1 month, 3 months, 1 year, 2 years…you get the idea. You keep on positing on forms and interviews that we will “hear something soon”, so for every major event that comes up we get interested, only to be let down because nothing has been said, and it’s starting to get somewhat obnoxious. Soon is not a good answer, if we won’t hear something for a year say so.
