Web Designer

Web Designer

Position Location

General Description
Robot Entertainment is looking for an experienced, multi-talented Web Designer to join its staff.  This person will have solid artistic skills that will help them with a wide variety of responsibilities concerning constructing and maintaining Robot’s web presence.  The candidate will also be expected to actively participate with our marketing team, customer support team, and various partners and vendors.  This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced web designer looking for new challenges or to enter the games industry.

Required Skills & Experience

  • Artistic skills to concept, layout, and refine web pages, including proficiency and experience with an art creation toolset such as CS5;
  • Experience with web site architecture and flow, both at the backend and user interface level for creating exciting and enticing user experiences;
  • Programming experience with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript;
  • A minimum of two (2) years development experience in the above.

Desirable Skills & Experience

  • Experience with functional testing, performance analysis, and documentation;
  • Has experience working with Autodesk 3ds Max or Maya software;
  • Plays and enjoys games on multiple platforms, particularly PC and console;
  • Has worked on Multiplayer Online games, particularly in the free-to-play space;
  • Possesses good written and oral communication skills;
  • Takes ownership and is a self-starter;
  • Some familiarity using tools such as Perforce, GitHub, and JIRA;
  • Possesses the ability to work as part of a team.

Educational Requirements

  • BA/BS/MS degree in a related field, or equivalent work experience.

Game Designer

Game Designer

General Description
Robot Entertainment has an opening for an experienced game designer. Designers at Robot are generalists, capable of performing or learning to perform the full range of design-related tasks, from blocking levels to providing creative leadership for projects. However, the immediate responsibilities for this position involve work related to game balance for Robot’s upcoming Orcs Must Die! Unchained.

Responsibilities

  • This is not an entry-level position. Professional experience working as a game designer is required. You must have a minimum of three years of experience in game development.
  • You must be able to demonstrate an understanding of game balance principles and the techniques used to model and test game balance.
  • You must be familiar with and interested in a broad spectrum of games. You must have at least a basic understanding of online game models model (PvP, PvE, competitive, F2P, and otherwise). You must be able to demonstrate an ability to deconstruct games into their design components and explain why they work (or do not work).
  • You must be able to work closely with various designers, artists, programmers, players, and others, explain ideas clearly, take and evaluate feedback, and be involved in “impassioned discussion”, all without making everyone nearby want to wring your neck constantly.
  • You must be capable of self-direction. If you’re the kind of person who needs to be provided with an exact list of detailed tasks and deadlines, this is not the right job for you.

Required Skills

  • Pragmatism — a high degree of creativity that can be applied while still keeping practical considerations in mind.
  • Professional experience in charge of or involved in game balance on a shipped title.
  • Professional experience in game system / mechanic design.
  • Professional experience with and a solid understanding of databases, level editors, scripting.
  • Good writing skills are preferred.

  • BS/BA/MS degree in a related field, or equivalent work experience.

Game Developer

General Description
Robot Entertainment, the independent developer of the Orcs Must Die!, Hero Academy, and Echo Prime franchises is looking for an experienced developer with Unity experience to join its staff. This individual will have responsibilities for Unity code and assets in our Orcs Must Die! Unchained title that is currently in Closed Beta. This is an excellent opportunity for a developer with Unity coding experience looking for new challenges or to enter the game development industry.

Required Skills & Experience

  • A minimum of two years’ experience as a Unity programmer using C# as the primary scripting language, including writing and shipping games on PC and/or iOS platforms.
  • Experience developing User Interfaces and integrating art, code, and feedback as the product iterates during development;
  • Possesses good written and oral communication skills;
  • Takes ownership and is a self-starter;
  • Possesses the ability to work as part of a team.

Additional Skills & Experience

The ideal candidate…

  • Plays and enjoys mobile, tablet, console, and PC games;
  • Has experience using NGUI for Unity, including building games and applications that make use of NGUI;
  • Has experience with large scale asset management within a Unity application or game;
  • Has an understanding & practical experience developing multi-platform titles;
  • Has experience evaluating and integrating new technologies including plug-ins and middleware;
  • Has worked on mobile and PC-based online games;
  • Has participated in developing very large scale client-server gaming applications;

  • BS/BA/MS degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent work experience.

Robot Entertainment is looking for a senior-level, experienced, multi-talented Server Developer to join its staff. This person will have a wide variety of responsibilities and will be expected to participate with our team in supporting our computer gaming entertainment products. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced server developer looking for new challenges or to enter the games industry.

Required Skills & Experience

  • Programming experience with C#, .Net, Mongo DB, and MySQL.
  • Experience planning large server and network hardware build-outs ;
  • Experience developing n-tier applications on a variety of different client and server platforms, including Windows and Linux;
  • Experience with systems architecture, both at the backend and User Interface level;
  • Familiar with using Perforce, and JIRA;
  • A minimum of five (5) years development experience in the above.

Desirable Skills & Experience

The ideal candidate…

  • Also has experience and a working knowledge of C++, Ruby on Rails, JavaScript, HTML, CSS, and Unity;
  • Plays and enjoys games on multiple platforms, particularly PC and console;
  • Has shipped n-tier applications leveraging MySQL or MongoDB as data store;
  • Has participated in very large scale client-server application deployments;
  • Has worked on Multiplayer Online games;
  • Possesses good written and oral communication skills;
  • Takes ownership and is a self-starter;
  • Possesses the ability to work as part of a team.
