Notice: OMD on Steam with Win 11 24H2 Update Installed

If you are receiving this error message when attempting to launch Orcs Must Die! on Steam, please be aware that there is an incompatibility between the game and Windows 11 after the 24H2 Update is installed.

While we are working with Microsoft to address this issue, please be advised that the only known full workaround at this time is to downgrade the version of Windows on your PC by performing a fresh install of Windows 10. This admittedly radical step is not recommended given Microsoft’s ending of support for Windows 10 on October 14, 2025, but is the only option given that Microsoft is no longer supplying an installable version of Windows 11 on their website that is earlier than the 24H2 Update.

In the interim, if you are willing to play OMD on Steam in Windowed mode, please create a "user.cfg" file (note that this is a .cfg file, not a text .txt file) to launch the game in Windowed mode.

The contents of this user.cfg file should contain only this on the first line:

window

Save, then copy the new user.cfg file here "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Orcs Must Die!\data\startup\user.cfg".

If your Steam apps are not stored on your C: drive you will need to place the user.cfg file in the same directory path as above on the drive containing your Steam apps.

We will notify the OMD community once we have identified, or Microsoft has released, a fix for this issue. We appreciate your patience as we pursue a solution.
